On Tuesday, Katsina’s governor Dikko Radda inaugurated a program to empower 14 450 women who work in small businesses and engage in traditional economic activity in the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.
Beneficiaries include women, mothers, artisans, farmers, farmers, tailors, food processors, and other vulnerable citizens.

Governor Radda praised women as the engine of the state’s economy during the disbursement ceremony held at Katsina’s People’s Square, stating that their contribution has fueled and sustained the markets for too long while protecting the state’s cultural heritage.
He argued that up to 90% of women’s income is being spent on improving the well-being of their families, their children’s education, and the local community.
“Women’s empowerment is not just a policy; it’s a peace-building initiative.” The governor made the comment that “we are investing in Katsina State’s future, not just in businesses,” adding that.

A’isha Malumfashi, the state’s commissioner for women’s affairs in Katsina, stated earlier in her opening address that the initiative demonstrates the state government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development.
According to Malumfashi, it complies with the governor’s “Building Your Future Strategic Document” and the governor’s stated goals for promoting economic independence and self-reliance among women.
She explained that the empowerment program includes more than just providing financial support for women; it also addresses restoring their sense of worth, boosting their self-assurance, and revealing their hidden potential.
The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the empowerment so that they can expand their businesses, support their families, and act as social ambassadors for positive change.
She continued, “We know when we empower a woman that we have empowered a family and a community, and that community will prosper and prosper.”

Zulaihat Radda, the first lady of Katsina State, praised women as the backbone of their families, communities, and local economy, and urged the recipients to make use of the empowerment to ensure their families’ brighter future.

In accordance with the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, the state’s Renewed Hope Initiative, will soon provide sanitary pads to 10,000 women in the state.
