This year’s Golden Globes Awards in California is set to see celebrities battle it out for more than just gongs, with a PR to the stars claiming they will have another ‘moment to make a statement’
Golden Globes fever is here, and with it comes the watching eyes ready for the red carpet. As famous faces from around the world take to the annual bash in California, speculation is rife as to who will catch the eye.
But while some stars hope to win the plaudits, others simply hope for the shock factor to garner their headlines. Think Bianca Censori and Kanye West at the Grammys. And with it not known who will stand out this time around – although Timothée Chalamet is tipped for success – a PR to the stars has issued her best advice.
Jane Owen of Jane Owen PR explains that it’s not just the awards that matter, saying fashion can take just as much of a front seat. “The savviest celebrities walk the red carpet knowing it’s their moment to make a statement,” Jane told the Mirror.

“If they’re not going home with a trophy, the real success is leaving people talking about them long after the night is over. What you see on the carpet are very intentional choices meant to stand out in a sea of gowns and tuxes: bold shapes, unusual materials, vintage or reworked pieces, gender-fluid tailoring, or looks that spark debate. None of it is accidental.”
She admitted the “smartest moves” in this instance aren’t just outfits that carry subtle fashion notes. Instead, she says they must have “intention and narrative.”
“Extreme or Bold choices that say something,” Jane says. “With all the world events that are happening I would not be surprised if one of the celebrities took the opportunity to make a political statement with their outfits.
And Jane believes the Globes will see celebrities going as brazen as they would at the Met Gala. She revealed how those in attendance will have to think outside of the box to continue to get the attention at the 83rd annual awards at the Beverly Hilton.
She says they simply can’t “just regurgitate the looks of previous years”. Instead, she said: “I predict we see some extreme fashion statements to rival the Met Gala.”
And with her PR hat one, Jane told us what she would advise any attendees. “I would suggest the celebrities making these choices come armed with a flawless storyline to backup their choices as more than just shock tactics.
“People love a narrative and a publicity stunt with no meaning can make you look desperate for attention rather than someone using the platform to make a genuine statement.”
This year’s awards bash has already recognised Helen Mirren. The British national treasure, 80, picked up a Golden Globes lifetime achievement award.
The Oscar winner turned heads in a custom, long-sleeved, figure-hugging pink Stella McCartney dress at the Golden Eve celebration. She joined the likes of fellow award winner Sarah Jessica Parker at the event in Beverley Hills – a precursor to the Golden Globes, which takes place on Sunday January 11.
