Shubman Gill, the captain of India’s 15-man squad for the men’s T20 World Cup, has been replaced by Shubman Gill, the captain of the Test and one-day international team.
The 26-year-old omitted, scoring 291 in his 15 T20 appearances in 2025, with Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of India, claiming the batter was “short of runs at the moment.”
As India won the T20 game 3-1 and finished the series against South Africa, Gill missed the game on Friday.
In that game, Suryakumar Yadav scored five runs, but he kept the captaincy despite registering 218 runs in his 19 T20 appearances this year.
Agarkar stated, “We have full faith in our captain to deliver the World Cup.”
“I know what to do,” Suryakumar said. I have enough time to make the necessary adjustments. Surya will undoubtedly be the batter.
The T20 World Cup will be held between India and Sri Lanka on February 7 and 8 March.
