The first medal awarded to Great Britain at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore was won by Izzy Thorpe and Ranjuo Tomblin.

In the synchronized mixed duet free event, they won bronze and awarded GB its first-ever medal in the event. They also scored 322.0583 points.

With only 1.7980 points between first and third, it was a close race for the top spot.

Dennis Gonzalez Boneu and Iris Tio, both from Spain, won gold, while Aleksandr Maltsev, a six-time Olympic swimmer, and Olesia Platonova, a partner from Russia, took silver.

Despite having only previously competed together once, the British duo’s final had the highest difficulty and execution score.

At the European Championships last month, Thorpe, a silver medalist at the Olympics, and Tomblin, a rising star, took silver.
