In a tense final-set tie-break, British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool defeated Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara, who are defending men’s doubles champions, to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon.
Fifth seeds Cash and Glasspool won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6, and 10-8 to advance to their first Grand Slam title as a pairing.
The pair won the first men’s doubles title at Queen’s in the Open era before adding the Eastbourne title to their collection after winning the trophy-winning event there.
With their victory, they will face Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, who will play them in a semi-final game against one of their closest competitors.
After France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Australian team-mate Jordan Thompson withdrew from their final-16 tie, two-time major champions Briton Patten and Finland’s Heliovaara were given a walkover.
They should have been prepared for this Court-One match, but they were broken at 4-4 and Cash and Glasspool fought back to win the first set.
The pair engaged in a tie-break in the decider as the reigning champions fought their way back into the match by winning the second set.
