As Doctor Who, Gavin, Stacey, and Stranger Things take control of the BBC’s radio stations, the show’s guest lineup has been announced for the upcoming week. Fans of radio can anticipate a number of well-known voices to appear on Radio 2 and Radio 6 as the summer holidays approach.

Finn Wolfhard, a star of Stranger Things, will make an appearance on Craig Charles’ 6 Music on Monday, July 28. Outside of acting, the 22-year-old also plays in band The Aubreys’ season finale of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

Next week (ITV), Alison Steadman will be joining the guest presenter lineup for BBC Radio 2.

On Wednesday, Alison Steadman from Gavin and Stacey will join Jim Howick from Here We Go on the Breakfast Show. Later in the morning, Rob Brydron will take over as their radio station’s main host.

Billie Piper from Doctor Who will appear on the same show as Joanna Lumley, who co-starred on the show on Wednesday. In the roles of Wednesday’s grandmother Grandmama and music teacher Isadora Capri in Netflix’s hit dark comedy, Grandmama, and Capri, respectively, will the pair play.

Scott Mills’ salary increase was revealed last week, along with a list of BBC Radio 2’s wealthy list. The new BBC Annual report shows Scott earned £355, 000 – £359, 999 in the annual accounts for 2024/25.

Meanwhile, Zoe Ball was revealed to be the Beeb’s top earner with a salary of £515, 000 to £519, 000, followed by Vernon Kay who is on £355, 000-£394, 999. After Scott Milles, there’s Sara Cox on £310, 000-£314, 000 and Jeremy Vine on £310, 000 to £314, 999.

Vernon Kay was “trapped” on a train in the heatwave earlier this month, making it impossible for him to air his BBC Radio 2 show. While Vernon continued to cover the show, Sarah Cox continued to tweet, “Train isn’t training”!

Don’t worry if you just joined in and are concerned Vernon is coming off as a little too manly today, Sara advised the Radio 2 listeners. Sara, who obviously hails from the same region but is also well-known, is who I am.

Without coffee, air conditioning, deodorant, or other amenities, “Venny, poor Vernon is stuck on a hot, sweaty train.” So hopefully he will be admitted at some point.

Jack Saunders, a host of BBC Radio 1, broke down earlier this week when he publicly announced Ozzy Osbourne’s passing. The Black Sabbath singer was described by Jack as a “legend” during the news exchange.
