Gary Numan’s brother passed away. The heartbreaking news comes just days after the music legend was photographed crashing into a crowd in front of a concert.

Gary’s wife, who claimed the family had been informed of the “worst news ever,” comforted him while he was performing over the weekend at the O2 Academy in Birmingham. He immediately became distressed as he neared the end of Please Push No More, prompting Gemma to appear on stage.

Gary, 67, has now revealed the heartbreaking cause of his weekend pain. The final two days have been my life’s hardest, he said. Why exactly this. Just 60 years old, my brother John, passed away suddenly in Leeds on Saturday morning. He had spent the evening with me at my Telekon show, catching up, chatting, and sharing stories with me about his newly discovered love of reading.

We discussed authors, music, our lives, our loved ones, our dad, our dad, steam trains, airplanes, accidents, friends, and enemies just as much as we could squeeze in. We just had fun being together once more because these days we only see each other occasionally.

Gary became emotional while on stage in Birmingham this weekend
This weekend’s performance at Birmingham’s Redferns caused Gary to become emotional.

We talked for hours before and after the performance, but we eventually decided to leave because another performance was scheduled for later in Birmingham. I asked him how far he had to walk to his car when we were walking toward the front of our tour bus, which I believe was around 12:20 am. We said goodbye, and I observed him leave.

Gary continued with his heartfelt statement by saying that John sadly never returned to his car. He continued, “Betrayed by his own heart, he never made it to his car.” We may have left without knowing that he was lying in a wet street just yards away, but it will always be in my memories. A kind person fortunately saw him and called an ambulance, but it was too late.

I can’t even think straight enough to write a tribute to John because I can’t even remember where to put it. Instead, those words will come in time. This explains why I’m having trouble. My Dad believes that I should continue the tour because John’s lovely wife claimed that he would.

I am unable to make any kind of decisions at this time. I’m just watching one foot fall in front of the other while drifting, broken, and shocked. It screams and then whispers before fading away as the emotion overwhelms. I have no idea what to do with this situation, other than continue doing John’s thing that I was always so proud of. This is the worst time in my life. He adored Telekon. When I arrived, he was only 15 years old. This tour is a tribute to John, my brother, the best brother a man could ever have, so it’s no longer an album celebration.

Gary is currently touring with his band Telekon, which celebrated its 45th anniversary in 1980. One fan claimed that Gary’s wife Gemma came over and hugged him when he became emotionally upset on stage, but he kept on performing a “fabulous show.”
