Gabby Logan, the star of Strictly Come Dancing, has opened up about her time on the BBC show and how brutally real she came after being voted out in 2007 after being criticized.
Former Strictly Come Dancing star Gabby Logan has revealed her candid thoughts on her exit from the 2007 series, describing it as a “sobering” event that had a significant impact on her life.
The BBC presenter, who is usually seen delivering sports coverage, showed off her moves on the dance floor with pro dancer James Jordan, while her husband Kenny Logan was also competing, partnered with James’ wife, Ola Jordan.
Now 52, Gabby reflected on her stint in the competition: “I had an amazing experience on Strictly, I was only on it for a few weeks, but I had an amazing experience — but also, a kind of life-changing experience in many ways.
People say “Strictly changed my life,” but it sounds a little dramatic and it doesn’t work well.
Gabby acknowledged that she struggled with being chosen and wondered why she didn’t connect with the audience despite her affection for the program, according to Wales Online.
She described the shock of being eliminated as “you go in every week to work on your next week’s dance, and you don’t expect to go home,” she said.
Gabby, who had been scoring well at the time of her departure, found herself unexpectedly in the bottom two against Penny Lancaster.
In the end, the judges decided to save Rod Stewart’s wife, Penny, bringing Gabby’s journey abruptly to an abrupt end in Week 4.
It was obvious that people didn’t vote for me, but Gabby said on the Gold Minds podcast that it was about whether people liked her. This is understandable, she said. And I was well aware of how disliked I was.
She acknowledged that the electorate felt disapproved of her, saying, “I was sort of like, they didn’t like me enough to vote for me.”
Despite receiving assurances from James, Gabby admitted she was upset about the circumstances.
She said, “It was a very sobering kind of experience because in the days that followed, I was dreadfully missing the dancing and I realized I kind of felt like, Oh, what was it about me that people didn’t relate to?” “
Gabby weighed in on the possibility that her competitive nature might have contributed to her departure from the show.
Gabby noted that despite her claims that he was “wacky” at dancing, which amplified the sting of her exit.
Her husband, a former rugby player, did not win until just before the quarter-finals, but he had already escaped elimination several times before the judges’ decisions had saved him.
After realizing how deeply impacted she was by the elimination, Gabby revealed that her husband had offered to move in with her, though such a move was of course prohibited.
The season concluded with Alesha Dixon triumphing. She later joined the judging panel, taking over from Arlene Phillips.
The BBC will begin releasing the names of the new cast of Glitterball winners next month.
