
As the people celebrated Ogoni Day every year, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged leaders and stakeholders to embrace unity and put aside internal strife.
Fubara sent a message to mark Ogoni Day, which falls on January 4 each year.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, released a statement to honor the governor.
He praised the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) for its peaceful advocacy, and praised Ogoni Day as a symbol of resilience, identity, and a long-standing struggle for environmental justice and equity.

According to Fubara, the movement drew attention from the Niger Delta’s Ogoniland and other areas of the world to issues relating to human rights, social justice, and environmental degradation.
He praised the Ogoni people’s sacrifices and urged them to continue to be a significant part of Nigeria’s socio-political and democratic history, adding that the occasion gave people a chance to reflect on their past struggles and reaffirm their beliefs.
The Rivers leader argued that the Ogoni communities’ collective interest is essential, especially now that the Federal Government is engaged in dialogue processes aimed at resolving long-standing issues and issues in Ogoniland.
