To defeat Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the first time, American Taylor Fritz overcame an unexpected third-set capitulation.

With his big serving serving, the fifth seed, who had a two-set lead, it was on par for the match to come to an end in straight sets.

However, Fritz had a difficult third as he struggled to land his first serve and sent more shots beyond the baseline as Khachanov, 29, made it 6-1.

A malfunction by the electronic line call system caused a bizarre incident at the start of the fourth set, which caused the replayed play to call a “fault.”

However, Fritz’s return to form didn’t have an impact, as he advanced with a 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) victory over the Russian.

Andy Roddick is the only person to succeed in becoming the first man to win a male Grand Slam with a 2003 US Open triumph, and the world number five wants to put an end to his nation’s long wait for one.
