To the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season, Pierre Gasly has agreed to extend his contract with Alpine.

The 29-year-old Frenchman, who won one grand prix, has since won two podiums for the Renault-owned team in the 2023 season.

Executive director Flavio Briatore, who was not with the team when the driver first joined, has faith in Gasly.

Briatore continued, “I have always stressed how crucial it is to develop and improve the Alpine F1 team’s competitiveness,” since returning to the team.

We have our lead driver confirmed and well-positioned for the new era of F1, which will begin in 2026.

“During this difficult time, Pierre has been a tremendous asset to the team. We look forward to working together for a long time and I have been very impressed by his attitude, dedication, and talent.

Gasly expressed his excitement about investing in Alpine for the long term. Driving for a French automaker is a very proud job for me, especially as a Frenchman. Since I first joined in 2023, I have always believed that this organization is the best fit for the future.

Gasly won the Italian Grand Prix in 2020 when he left Red Bull’s second team, then called AlphaTauri, for his success.

Alpine have not yet decided on their second driver for 2026.

Franco Colapinto, an Argentine, has taken the seat alongside Gasly since the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in May.

After competing in the first six races of the season, he took the place of Australian Jack Doohan, who was then sacked and was now a reserve driver.
