Fabio Borini, a former Sunderland and former Liverpool striker, has signed for League Two Salford City until January.

The 34-year-old has been training with Salford for the past month after leaving Sampdoria in his native Italy last summer.

Borini told the club website, “I came in to train to keep myself hydrated during this transition between contracts and Salford. The gaffer (Karl Robinson) and Alex Bruce were kind enough to allow me to use the facilities and train here.”

He continued, “I’ve never played League Two football, so I need to learn the fundamentals of this league from my team-mates.” I’m also open to sharing my experiences with other teams so they can use me as an open book for their use, study, or assistance.

I’m accepting it because I needed the real football, something that warms my heart to football, not because of anything else, and I chose to embrace it.

Borini made his Premier League debut for Chelsea in 2009, and he also assisted Swansea in earning a loan deal to the English Premier League in 2011. He also has played for AC Milan and Roma, two other Italian clubs.
