Four Suspected Kidnappers Neutralised In Ogun

Four suspected kidnappers were neutralized, according to the Ogun State Police Command in a failed kidnapping attempt along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital by the police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola.

She claimed that the suspects had recovered operational weapons while their victims had been unharmed when they were rescued.

A kidnapping attempt along the Warewa axis of the Long Bridge was halted by operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command in a quick and coordinated response to a distress call on February 20, 2025, at around 2030 hrs,” she said.

“A white Paragon commercial vehicle with registration number BDG 753 YH, driven by Mr. Morufu Adedeji and heading towards Lagos, was ambushed by unknown armed men at a lonely section of the road, the assailants, wielding firearms and dangerous weapons, forcefully halted the vehicle, pointed a gun at the driver, and began robbing passengers at gunpoint”.

She claimed that the driver had wisely and bravely opened the rear door before the attack when some passengers managed to escape through it.

“This act enraged the kidnappers, who then brutally assaulted the driver to the point of unconsciousness, other motorists raised an alarm, which was swiftly intercepted by the Anti-Kidnapping Team on patrol”.

“Upon arrival, the police officers engaged the fugding criminals in a gunfight. While some of the armed men escaped with gunshot wounds into the nearby forest, four of the men suffered fatal injuries.

She said listed items recovered at the scene to include one locally made pistol with two cartridges, two daggers, a cash sum of ₦20, 000, one Tecno Android phone, one solar power bank and three USB lights (suspected stolen property).

“The bodies of the neutralized kidnappers have been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy and further investigation”

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to riding the area of criminal activities, and further strengthening security in that area.

He has increased routine patrols to ensure the safety of residents and commuters while keeping tactical operatives stationed at strategic flashpoints in Arepo.

The Command has, however, urged members of the public, especially medical practitioners, to report any individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.
