Four games in 48 hours – US superfan’s whirlwind London tour

Four games in 48 hours – US superfan’s whirlwind London tour

Friday night – Loftus Road, Saturday lunchtime – Plough Lane, Saturday evening – Selhurst Park, Sunday afternoon – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Four venues, three leagues, more than six hours of football, almost 67, 000 steps and all in less than 48 hours.

That was American superfan Andrew Smith’s itinerary fresh off the back of a 10-and-a-half-hour, 5, 500-mile flight from San Diego into London Heathrow on Friday.

pushing the game’s inherent passion to the max.

Some people may wonder why I would devote my time to this, but he said it was very interesting and unique for the community I work in as an interloper and cultural voyeur.

The quality of the game is significantly higher here, and the understanding of the fanbases has improved. The differences between the grounds and the tiers are both very intriguing and fantastic.

The 47-year-old teacher is a self-confessed football obsessive and a big Tottenham fan.

He created a small group of supporters on Facebook to allow them to watch the club’s games in their neighborhood English-themed pub. He even started his own fans’ group on Facebook.

The group expanded as the San Diego Spurs Official Supporters’ Club, which is now a result of the work’s co-founder Ben Forman’s support.

It has taken him around the US to the likes of Denver, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Nashville and Los Angeles, and has even seen his beloved team play in San Diego.

Every time, Smith tries to watch a game at the club’s preferred pub in the city of southern California.

A manic football weekend in London

Friday afternoon. Touchdown at Heathrow at midday, get to the hotel in Paddington – quick nap, then up and out to walk the three-mile journey to Shepherd’s Bush.

Smith likes to explore his surroundings, take in the sights and meet people along the way.

Queens Park Rangers and Derby itself lost 4-0 to the new Rams manager John Eustace in the championship game, which was a humiliating 4-0 loss.

After winning with a score of 4-0, I sat with wonderful people who graciously welcomed me back. My favourite chant in the whole weekend was definitely ‘ Sacked in the morning ‘ to]John Eustace] on his return]to Derby], “he said.

AFC Wimbledon host Salford City in a crucial match of League Two on Saturday morning, and the walk south of the river leads to the Cherry Red Records Stadium in what is expected to be a nearly seven-mile walk.

This has a different feel. Loftus Road is a” tenured “stadium, whereas Wimbledon’s relatively new ground is” clean and compact”.

Before making the (correct) conclusion that this would have been too much, Smith even considered trying to squeeze in a 3 p.m. visit to Leyton Orient for their home game against Lincoln.

After making a decision against it, the train traveled back to central London and then traveled again to Selhurst Park for Crystal Palace’s and Everton’s first Premier League game.

” I was an American sitting between two Turkish-Germans to one side and a Dutch couple to the other, a season-ticket holder behind me and another American voice two rows behind, “he said.

The Premier League’s reach, according to the report, “absolutely showed how far-reaching it is in comparison to other leagues.”

Before the game, which involved more than 1, 000 supporters and left the north London club in the bottom half of the Premier League, Smith and his friend arrived at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday to find the organized fans protesting the club’s ownership.

On the one hand, I feel very fortunate to have witnessed Tottenham’s best decades since the 1960s, he said, “I have mixed feelings about them.”

” On the other hand, I understand the frustration with brand new]training] ground, brand new stadium, highest ticket prices – but look at the results. “

Smith replaced him in the South Stand and gave his team a significant 1-0 victory over Manchester United, which was in decline.

Spurs were fortunate on his previous visit, falling 2-1 to Wolves with Joao Gomes scoring twice.

Smith’s love of the game has now taken him to 10 UK football grounds across several different levels of the pyramid, including Anfield, Wembley, Gillingham’s Priestfield Stadium, Cheriton Road, home to Isthmian League Folkestone Invicta, and of course the old White Hart Lane.

He’s already in Edinburgh for part two of his vacation, but this time there’s a break from football, and despite his busy weekend in the capital, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

I’ll probably never see Jake again in my life because we had a moment where we could celebrate a goal, he said. Football is a game of moments.

“The conversations I had with QPR employees who didn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day because football came first for them.”

“Standing in the South Stand among the other Tottenham supporters. I’ll never be a local or a Londoner, but I’m still feeling united in my support for my team.
