The Women’s Super League team announced that Matt Beard, a former manager of Liverpool, passed away at the age of 47.
In 2013 and 2014, Beard led Liverpool to back-to-back WSL titles.
In 2021, he made a second appearance at the club, but he was fired in February of that year.
Liverpool praised “an extremely committed and successful manager” in a statement.
He was a person of genuine integrity and warmth, and everyone he worked for at the club will always remember him with genuine fondness. Please rest in peace, Matt.
After being replaced by Beard in 2021, Beard helped the Reds regain their position in the WSL and place seventh on their way back to the top flight.
Liverpool’s inaugural Champions League campaign was also led by Beard.
Following the announcement of Matt Beard’s passing, the WSL posted a tribute on X: “Everyone at WSL Football extends its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and loved ones of his.
Everyone associated with women’s football will miss Matt because he contributed significantly to the development of the sport.
Beard’s brother, Mark, praised the “most amazing, caring man who was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.”
Matt Matt, he continued to love you forever in a social media post.
Beard took over as manager of Burnley in June, but he left after only two months.
