Former Arsenal midfielder Partey charged with rape

Thomas Partey, a former football player for Arsenal, is facing charges of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the crimes allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.

The accusations relate to three different women, with one rape count involving a single woman, the other three rape counts involving a second woman, and one sexual assault count involving a third woman.

After playing for the team since 2020, the 32-year-old’s contract with Arsenal expired on Monday.

Arsenal, the Premier League, and the Football Association have been contacted by BBC News for comment.

The charges come after a detectives’ investigation began in February of that year, 2022, when police first received a rape report.

The investigation’s lead investigator, Det Supt Andy Furphy, stated that “supporting the women who have come forward is still our top priority.”

He now relishes the chance to finally clear his name.

Mr Partey joined Arsenal for £45.3m from Atletico Madrid in October 2020, made 35 top-flight appearances last season and scored four goals as the London club finished second in the Premier League.
