Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez, who passed away at the age of 19 and was Robert De Niro’s grandson, was the subject of multiple arrests.

Five people have been arrested in connection with the fatal overdose of Robert De Niro’s grandson, two years after he was found dead in his family’s New York apartment.

Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez was 19 when he died. He was found at his family’s apartment in the Cipriani Club Residence on Wall Street in New York on 2 July 2023. He was the son of Drena De Niro, the eldest child of Oscar winner Robert.

De Niro-Rodriguez passed away from an accidental drug overdose, according to the medical examiner’s office in New York City. Five people were detained on suspicion of drug possession in connection with the death on October 30.

The five people detained are alleged to be members of a criminal organization that distributed “thousands of counterfeit prescription opioid pills laced with fentanyl, among other drugs” to young people and teenagers in New York.

De Niro-Rodriguez and Akira Stein, the daughter of Blondie musician Chris Stein, who passed away two months before De Niro’s grandson, were among the defendants who reportedly received laced pills to three 19-year-olds who passed away.

De Niro-Rodriguez’s death has already been covered by the arrest of a woman, bringing the total to six. The alleged victim’s mother, Sofia Haley Marks, is said to have purchased the laced drugs the day before his death. She was detained several weeks after her death and charged with distribution of federal drugs.

At the time of her son’s death, Drena De Niro claimed the person who sold him the pills knew they were laced with fentanyl. “Someone sold him fentanyl laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him,” she wrote on Instagram.

A friend discovered De Niro-Rodriguez unconscious in a chair at his family’s apartment, according to the Daily Mail. The friend went to the teenager because he hadn’t spoken to him in a few days, according to TMZ.
