Five jockeys were suspended for ten days after failing to participate in a furious, erratic Windsor flat-race in which a blinded, loose horse collided with a plastic running rail.

A field of seven was in the five-furlong handicap for apprentice jockeys at 16:52 BST on Monday, but the outcome was deemed invalid due to a false start.

Martin Dunne trained Master Zack in the stalls, but he returned just before the gates opened.

Riderless Master Zack began to run away with his vision obscured by the blindfold while jockey Ryan Kavanagh remained in the stalls.

The three-year-old then veered to the right and collided with a rail before being caught without any serious injuries.

Tommie Jakes, Jack Doughty, Jack Dace, Taryn Langley, and Alec Voikhansky, the horses all completed the course, but chief stipendiary steward Richard Westropp claimed they ignored requests to stop.

The recall man is standing in the middle of the track, Westropp said, “and blowing his whistle is very clear in our footage.” I believe that every rule was followed exactly.
