Following the Oyo State Fire Services Agency’s swift response, a potential tanker fire disaster was prevented in the Oyo State capital of Ibadan.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, a distress call from the Eleyele neighborhood involving a tanker accident right next to the AIB Filling Station was promptly addressed by the agency.

Akinyemi Akinyinka, a trailer tanker with the registration number T21044LA (Lagos), swerved off the road into a nearby ditch, causing its contents to sputter profusely in a statement signed by the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency.

“The emergency call was made on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at exactly 20:45 p.m., following a call made by a woman named Mary about the truck accident at the cited address.”

A crew of firemen led by CFS Olayiwola immediately arrived at the scene of the incident, and upon arrival, it was a trailer tanker with regd. No. T21044LA (LAGOS), loaded with 45, 000 litres of petroleum motor spirit (PMS), veered off the road and fled into a nearby ditch with heavy content.

The firemen “started moving right away” by utilizing a chemical foam compound to stop the flammable liquid from catching the fire from the surrounding area,” the statement read.

Akinyinka added that normal vehicular movement had been resumed after the tanker had been removed, and that daily activities had not been hampered by it.

The Eleyele Police Command Headquarters, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Amotekun Corps all worked together to prevent what could have been a major disaster thanks to the support of the fire service team.

The most recent incident adds to the recent Ibadan tanker-related accidents.

A gas tanker carrying 33, 000 litres of fuel exploded at Celica Junction in Adegbayi, New Ife Road, Ibadan, on July 17, 2025 after losing control and striking two vehicles. The tanker and a car were directly impacted by the fire before it could spread to a nearby NNPC filling station. There were no fatalities.

On April 12, 2025, an explosion similar to this one occurred in the Lagos/Ibadan Motorway’s Tollgate neighborhood. Along Lead City University Road, the fire destroyed both homes and vehicles. Again, fire officials managed the situation quickly.
