In response to increasing responsibilities and economic difficulties, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has announced plans are being considered for the review of the salaries of Nigerian political office holders. They claim their current salaries are unsustainable and unrealistic.
President Bola Tinubu currently earns 1. 5 million dollars per month, while ministers have received less than N1 million, according to Mohammed Shehu, commission chairman, whose income has remained constant since 2008.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s president receives 1.5 million dollars each month, representing a population of over 200 million. Everyone thinks it’s a joke, Shehu told the audience.
You can’t expect a minister to perform at his best without getting involved in some other things, say you. You can’t pay him less than $1 million per month since 2008. The RMAFC chief said that a CBN governor or DG is paid ten times more than the president is.
Simply put, that is inappropriate. Or you pay him [the head of an agency] a payoff equal to the Federation’s Attorney-General. That is utterly unacceptable.

The RMAFC’s plans to review the salaries of political office holders were opposed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which claimed the proposal lacked the country’s worsening inequality and hidden benefits that already increase government salaries.
