FAAN To Shut Lagos Airport Runway For Repairs

Runway 18R/36L at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport will temporarily be closed for rehabilitation work by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The runway was reopened two weeks after an 11-month maintenance delay, and the closure is scheduled for March 3 and 4.

In a memo from February 28, J. U. Nwosu, FAAN’s head of operations, cited safety concerns, stating that the A2 Taxiway-Link’s construction equipment could present a risk to landing and taking off.

The closure was emphasized in the memo to prevent operational risks, which was addressed to the airport manager and the Southwest region’s regional general manager.

The shorter domestic runway, 18L/36R, will handle all flight operations while the runway is closed. Although this runway is operational, domestic and international flights may experience delays as a result of capacity constraints.
