After making sexist remarks on social media, former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez was fined and warned about his future conduct.
The 37-year-old, who currently plays for Liga MX side Chivas, posted a number of “propagating sexist stereotypes” on TikTok, according to the Mexican Football Federation.
The striker claimed on social media that women are “failing” and “eradicate masculinity.”
The comments made over the weekend received a backlash in Mexico.
The first female president of the nation, Claudia Sheinbaum, praised Chile for being a very good soccer player, but still has a lot to learn about women.
Chivas claimed that the comments were “inconvenient to the club’s principles and values” and that appropriate action had been taken against Hernandez, even though it was unknown what action would be taken.
Hernandez, Mexico’s all-time top scorer, left Chivas in 2010 to join Manchester United.
He won the Premier League twice while playing at Old Trafford for four years.
He spent three seasons with West Ham before making a return to the Premier League after leaving Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen in 2017.
Hernandez then spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Galaxy, an MLS side, before joining Sevilla from the Hammers.
