Shinzo Abe’s killer, who was the former Japanese prime minister, was given a life sentence by a Japanese court.
Tetsuya Yamagami, 45, had admitted to shooting Abe in the head in a heinous act in 2022.
Yamagami’s murder was “unprecedented in our post-war history,” according to the prosecution, who sought a life sentence for the accused and cited its “extremely serious consequences” on society.
The attorneys of Yamagami argued for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
