Ex-England player arrested on suspicion of attempted rape

A former Premier League and England international has been detained on suspicion of attempted rape.

The suspect, who played for the Three Lions in 2010, was detained at Stansted Airport, according to The Sun.

For legal reasons, he cannot be identified.

A man has been detained on suspicion of attempted rape, according to a spokesperson for Essex Police, and he has been bailed until late February 2026 to continue our inquiries.

Before he could board a flight on Sunday, the player was allegedly stopped by Border Force agents at a passport control check.
