Idrissa Gana Gueye and teammate Michael Keane had an argument with one another during the Premier League game at Manchester United, and I was sent off.

When Gueye and Keane started arguing at Old Trafford in the 13th minute, United’s Bruno Fernandes was on the verge of scoring.

Gueye’s defender appeared to push him twice before the midfielder appeared to touch him.

Before referee Tony Harrington sent Gueye a straight red card for violent conduct, Everton’s England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had to pull the pair apart.

The Premier League Match Centre later stated on X: “The referee’s call to Gueye for violent conduct was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, with the action deemed to be a clear strike on the face of Keane.”

Former Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart said “something must have been brewing” between the two players before the red card, in a statement on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

Idrissa Gueye was speaking to the referee, who was significantly larger than him, and pushed him with one arm, Hart claimed.

“The referee just casually walked over and sent him off as he went on to continue the discussion.” In this circumstance, Jordan Pickford did a fantastic job.

Gueye is the first Premier League player to receive a red card after he and Andy Griffin fought against West Ham in 2008 and Ricardo Fuller for Stoke.

The encounter between Gueye and Keane was described as “unusual” by former assistant referee Darren Cann, who oversaw more than 1, 000 professional matches.

He continued, “Tony Harrington was looking directly at the confrontation,” he added in a BBC Radio 5 Live interview. In accordance with football’s rules, he could see Gueye slap Keane around the face without obstruction, which would constitute violent conduct and a red card.
