Everton’s Carabao Cup second round match against Mansfield was delayed on Wednesday to allow fans “safe access” to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The match was scheduled to begin at 19:45 BST, but it was changed to 15 minutes as a large number of empty seats started to show.
Everton claimed on August 16 that the tie was “sold out” at the venue with 6, 000 traveling fans from Mansfield, which had a capacity of 52, 700.
Everton’s social media channels, including the fan services account on X, were overflowing with fans complaining about allegedly problematic ticketing issues the day of the EFL Cup game.
Physical tickets have been replaced by a digital app since Goodison Park moved to the new stadium, but some fans claim they haven’t received their match tickets by Wednesday afternoon.
