The Albanian contestants in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland impressed home audiences with their potent performances, but viewers pointed out something that resembles them in some way.

The Eurovision Song Contest hopefuls put on an impressive show on Saturday evening – but it wasn’t the singing that had some fans talking. As 26 countries took to the stage in Basel, Switzerland, it was the last duo that had viewers at home saying the same thing.

Some people couldn’t help but feel like they were playing a popular cartoon character despite Albania’s impressive vocals receiving praise for their efforts. Zjerm, the song by electro-pop duo Shkodra Elektronike, won the hearts of the crowd. However, one of the duo was frequently compared to a Minions film character.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one user wrote: “Albania is serving Gru #Eurovision2025 #eurovision,” while putting a comparison of the singer and the cartoon. Another joked: “We got Gru performing for Albania #Eurovision2025.”

The Albanian act won over the audience

A third person shared a picture of the animated villain and said, “Good to see Gru representing Albania #Eurovision2025”. Additionally, several posts in other languages have the same point of view, despite the fact that the UK audience was the only one making the comparison.

However, some people were against his addition. One user reacted, “Albania – I’ll take it without Gru and his random drumming and talk rapping #Eurovision2025 4/10”

Earlier in the show, fans were quick to comment on Tommy Cash’s performance of Espresso Macchiato. He performed the catchy tune for Estonia. The performer, whose real name is Tomas Tammemets, performed in the Swiss capital of Basel after the 33-year-old singer was chosen to be the country’s act following his Eesti Laul 2025 victory with his dance-pop hit.

Although the actor has a devoted fan base and has performed since 2012, not all Eurovision viewers have heard of him. And they quickly shared their thoughts on his song on Twitter/X.

As a person who needs coffee, a confused fan commented, “Vocally could be better, but this is one of the funniest songs, artists, and performances of the year.” Estonia “gives me what Eurovision is all about,” added another!

However, there was controversy following Israel’s performance. Two people tried to rush the stage during Israeli singer Yuval Raphael’s entry, organisers confirmed. A spokesman for SRG SSR said: “At the end of the Israeli performance, a man and a woman tried to get over a barrier onto the stage.

They were escorted. A crew member was hit when one of the two agitators threw paint. No one on the crew was hurt, just the crew. The police then removed the man and the woman from the location.

It was claimed that the competition’s bosses also chose to drown out the sounds of booing when she performed New Day Will Rise for a rehearsal on Friday night. Shortly after the performance on Saturday, bosses released a statement.

The host broadcaster, SRG SSR, used the “audio sweetening” technique, which is used in major international productions, to host the Eurovision Song Contest. This method helps to bring the sound of the moderating, video, and individual acts together and to provide a consistent soundscape for the TV audience.

It is only used to complete the program’s technical rounding. For all acts, this procedure is used in the same way and same way. There is no such thing as a negative impact on the competition and its outcomes.
