Esther Rantzen, a former That’s Life host, is battling lung cancer and is now forced to post fake photos online as well, as her daughter has criticized the cruel trolling.
The daughter of Dame Esther Rantzen has blasted “appalling” online trolls as after they used AI to post fake photos online claiming to show the TV host in a hospital bed looking close to death.
Becca Wilcox appeared on BBC One’s Morning Live show to insist her mum was doing as well as she could be dealing with lung cancer at home, and did not look anything like the fake photos. She said: “I was just appalled by them. And I just want to say, first off, obviously these are not real pictures, they are fake pictures of what mum supposedly looks like.
“There is one I really hate because I think she is supposed to be dead or in a coma. It is an extraordinary thing to do I mean, a weird and horrible thing. She doesn’t look like that.
She has discussed her cancer battle in She has been very secretive about it. She makes an effort to make the most audio possible because she is aware that this is something that people are likely interested in. However, she wants to travel with her family in the background because many of her friends haven’t seen her in months, so they’re the first to see her.
My brother has been told to tell his children that these pictures are fake and that they are not real. She doesn’t appear like that. Becca added that they celebrated Esther’s birthday last weekend and that they also showed new unreleased photos of her mother standing alongside her.
She looked fantastic, Becca continued. She has advanced cancer, you may be aware of. She appears incredible despite how she didn’t fall.
“I’m really grateful to show you these pictures, which depict her true beauty. She is showing images on the screen this Sunday. She had a birthday party there. A huge half-pavlova cake was served. And you’re aware that this is her completely different walking through her garden. Yes, some people are sleeping in hospitals and others are unwell, but the picture was a scam. She appears like this. Last Sunday is literally here. I wished you could see how well-looking Mum is.
She’s not dead, if she’s not on a hospital bed, I just want to make it clear. They are not real, and neither are the images.
In May 2023, Esther Rantzen has revealed her lung cancer, which she was diagnosed with in January, was in stage four. In as about her health, Dame Esther told the Mirror: “I’m on one of the new medications, and nobody knows if it’s working or not. But I will have a scan fairly soon which will reveal one way or another.”
At the time she explained she had gone public with her lung cancer diagnosis “because I find it difficult to skulk around various hospitals wearing an unconvincing disguise”.
She has since been a prominent supporter of the legislation that grants to terminally ill adults in England and Wales the right to an assisted death. The most advanced stage of lung cancer is stage four, which indicates that it has spread from one lung to the next, either through the lung. Dame Esther, who turned 85 on Sunday, was a successful TV personality who also hosted the BBC consumer program That’s Life! for 21 years.
Presenters made the observation in the Morning Live segment that fake photos are becoming more prevalent online.
