After their two-day opener defeat in Perth, fast bowler Mark Wood has stated that he would drive to Brisbane if he could to “just keep my mind on.”
The 35-year-old seamer said he would travel 2, 832 miles as the England squad mentally recover from their eight-wicket thrashing in Western Australia while speaking on the For Love of Cricket podcast.
Wood told former teammate Stuart Broad, “It’s going to hurt and it should hurt for a few days.”
Because the end goal is important, it’s more than just this one game, we must ultimately unite, they say.
We’re stuck here; it’s not like we can just leave for Brisbane, they say. I’d probably drive across the country just to keep my mind sharp.
After the first Test ended prematurely on Saturday, England has an 11-day break between matches.
None of the players who showed up in Perth are expected to play in the two-day pink-ball game against a prime minister’s XI in Canberra, with the majority of the players coming from the England Lions squad.
After being bowled out inside 35 overs in their second innings, England’s all-seam attack had to return to the field on Saturday, but Wood said the home side’s quick chase was unaffected by the home side’s quick turn.
Wood said, “I wouldn’t say it was that physically challenging this game, but I would say it’s more emotional.”
The first days of the Ashes are always more draining than any other day, they seem to be expressing just the emotion.
You never actually turn off when we were back on the field, according to one player, because the game had passed through a period of bowl-bat-bowl.
Wood, who had knee surgery and was playing his first game since February, was without a wicket in the series opener.
In the first innings, he was sparsely bowled, conceding only 21 runs in his eight overs, and only managed 18 balls in the second as Australia won.
For the fourth Ashes tour in a row, the tourists are now heading to Queensland’s capital to avoid losing their first two Test matches, and Wood supported England’s attack by allowing them to defeat the Australian batters.
“That victory will give Australia confidence.” Although it’s only one guy who has played exceptionally well, Wood said that they will benefit greatly as a group.
