John Mitchell, England’s world champion head coach, has been named the year’s best female rugby player.

For the first time since 2014, the Red Roses won the tournament at Twickenham on Saturday, beating Canada 33-13.

England have won a record 33 games in succession, with Mitchell still playing since the men’s 2023 World Cup when they lost back-to-back finals to New Zealand in 2017 and 2022.

In April, Mitchell’s team won their seventh straight women’s Six Nations Grand Slam.

In this industry, there are numerous swings and roundabouts, Mitchell said.

Sophie de Goede, a lock for Canada, won the year in the women’s basketball category.

After 13 months out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, the 26-year-old Saracens player only recently returned in July.

De Goede won the player of the match award in the World Cup match against Australia and Wales.

In Canada’s semi-final victory over New Zealand, she also scored a try.
