England vs. Italy: Men’s Six Nations

Venue: Twickenham Allianz Stadium On Sunday, March 9 Kick-off: 15:00 GMT

Fraser Dingwall claims that his England debut will be “more special” if he plays in a well-known backline with four Northampton Saints team-mates.

Dingwall will make his first Test appearance in more than a year after being chosen inside center for the Six Nations game against Italy at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

The 25-year-old won his first two caps for England in the opening match of the tournament last year against Italy and Wales, but Ollie Lawrence and Henry Slade had both started playing centers together in the previous 13 games.

In midfield, Dingwall will step up to partner Lawrence, and he says he is looking forward to joining a backline that includes Tommy Freeman and Ollie Sleightholme in addition to Northampton’s Alex Mitchell and Fin Smith.

Dingwall, who won the Premiership with Northampton last year, told BBC Sport, “It’s really cool for two reasons.”

“From the rugby side, we have great connections, and I hope I can help them with the good work they have all done.”

Being able to do it with those guys just makes the occasion more special, “but also because those guys are my mates.”

It hasn’t happened as quickly as I had anticipated.

Dingwall’s path to success abroad has been more difficult, despite having a significant impact on Northampton’s success.

Before representing England Under-20s, the Cambridge-born centre played age-grade rugby for Scotland as a result of his paternal heritage.

Eddie Jones, the predecessor of head coach Steve Borthwick, called him up to senior squads, but he went through 10 training camps without winning a senior cap.

Before scoring his debut try against Wales the following week, Dingwall claims he wants to make up for lost time because he had to wait more than a year for his third cap against the Azzurri in Rome.

He continued, “Last year was unbelievable.” “It was the first game I ever played in my life.” I’ve been with and around the squad, but I’ve never been able to play.

“Ollie [Lawrence] was back in shape after some really good experiences defeating Italy and Wales.

“The feedback I received at the time was that I had played well but that the starting pair had already been available.”

You can sort of accept that as the coach’s preference, and I was relieved to be able to realize my dream and have a chance to succeed.

Despite having won the title race by a single point over France and Scotland before, Dingwall will want to prove a point and sharpen an England attack that has been criticized for lacking cutting edge.

Italy travels to London after being severely defeated by France 73-24, but Dingwall says the injured Azzurri are confident of making history against an unbeaten England side.

He continued, “Typically, they tend to react when a team produces a significant result,” he continued.

“It’s without a doubt that Italy still have a very strong team.

They “would be disappointed with the France game,” but they have shown enough through the previous matches that they have a lot of talent and some dangerous people.
