England women’s manager Sarina Wiegman has been named the BBB Sports Activist Coach of the Year for a second time.
With a victory in the Euro 2025 final over Spain, the Dutchwoman won the team’s second successive European Championship title.
The Lionesses became the first English team to ever win a significant trophy on a foreign soil with a victory.
In the September 2021 match that won the Lionesses their first major silverware at Euro 2022, when they defeated Germany 2-1 in the final at Wembley, Wiegman assumed the role of England manager.
In 2023, England made it to the World Cup final in Australia, but Spain lost 1-0.
England retained its incredible battling prowess at this year’s Euros, becoming the only nation in the competition’s history to have three matches play in extra time.
Wiegman, who led the Netherlands to the Euro 2017 title and 2019 World Cup final, became the first women’s or men’s manager to reach five major international championship finals before reaching the final.
After the final in Switzerland ended 1-1 after extra time, the Lionesses won the game 3-1 on penalties, with Chelsea goalkeeper Hannah Hampton sapping two of Spain’s shots in the shootout.
With the victory, Wiegman became only the second manager to have won three European Championships in a row, behind Christina Theune in Germany.
Wiegman won the women’s coach award at the Fifa Best Awards for the fifth consecutive year as a result of her success in England, winning the 2025 Ballon d’Or award and the women’s coach award at the same time.
Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows shared the BBB Sports Activist Coach of the Year award in 2024 after guiding Keely Hodgkinson to 800m Olympic gold at the Paris Games.
In 1999, Sir Alex Ferguson, the first coach to win the Treble, was awarded with the title of “Manchester United Coach of the Year.”
Sir Clive Woodward, Colin Montgomerie, and Claudio Ranieri have all won in the past.
