Debbie Dingle, who she portrayed in Emmerdale, has opened up about her health and revealed that she is being evaluated for autism and ADHD.
Charley Webb, the 37 year old actress known for her role as Debbie Dingle in Emmerdale from 2002 to 2021, has opened up about a recent health diagnosis. The mother of three, who shares her children with ex-partner Matthew Wolfenden, who played David Metcalfe in Emmerdale, emphasised: “It’s so important for people to understand themselves and I think as we’re getting older it’s becoming more of a thing now.”
She revealed on the podcast Girls Next Door that she is currently being evaluated for ADHD and autism. I’ve essentially just been diagnosed with that, she said. Because I’m just in the beginning stages, I don’t want to confirm it. Autistic/ADHD is more prevalent in autism. What do I do like? ‘. I’ve just begun the [with doctors] process.
Discussing the topic of ADHD, she said: “I think ADHD is such a big subject now and I think everyone is probably on the spectrum somewhere, like, it’s how deep you go into it.”
She continued: “But it does make a lot of sense for me for things like people thinking that I’m really cold. I think that could just be like a little bit of the autistic side of me if it is true. I’ve got to do way more investigations but that doesn’t shock me that much. It’s interesting,” reports the Express.
No one discussed it years and years ago, she said. There has never been a discussion about ADHD or anything similar, but it has since spread like a wildfire. That is really important to be understood, in my opinion. And noise, which is what causes it, is what I’m trying to avoid. In a matter of seconds, I go from nought to 60. When I travel somewhere that is incredibly busy, I find it to be so overwhelming. So I’ll be interested in learning more about that.
“It’s something inside of you, isn’t it?” It is a genetic trait. For instance, one parent would need to have it for a child to have it.
According to the NHS website, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a condition that most people don’t experience in terms of brain function. You might struggle with things like focusing and sat still if you have ADHD. You can take steps to manage your symptoms.
Earlier this year, Charley and Matthew, put their family home on the market for £900,000. Charley, 34, and Matthew, 44, shared the four-bedroomed Harrogate property with their three kids; Buster, 14, Bowie, nine, and Ace, five, before their shock split. It boasts a spacious outdoor summer house in a huge back garden and stunning finishes throughout.
The Emmerdale star’s split was revealed in a statement released at the time by the actress to the media: “Love and respect, Matthew and I have decided to separate. Our main goals are our children’s education, and we will always be friends. We would appreciate privacy at this point for their sake. C x”. Matthew signed off with “M” on his Instagram message, which read the same.
The pair were together for five years before calling time on their marriage in November 2023. Shortly after their split, an insider claimed Charley was ‘hardly at home’ and ‘moved lots of her stuff out’.
Matthew thanked his parents for supporting him during the separation on Loose Women. He continued, “Bless my mum and dad; I owe them a holiday because they have moved in and are looking after the kids.”
The former couple first got engaged to each other in 2007 on Emmerdale’s set. In a hidden ceremony in 2018, they tied the knot two years later. Rumors about their relationship’s status started to spread in the first quarter of 2023. Fans were aware that he unfollowed Charley on Instagram before the split was made public.
Emmerdale airs on ITV1 and ITVX on weeknights at 7:30pm, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
