Emma Willis, the TV presenter who takes over Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday, expresses her genuine stress in a statement.
TV presenter Emma Willis has opened up about a ‘stress dream’ due to feeling nervous as she takes over from Zoe Ball as BBC Radio 2 host. Emma opened her first BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday and admitted ‘the pressure suddenly dawned on her’.
Following Zoe Ball’s, 55, who had to decide to leave the afternoon slot after just seven months, Emma, 49, was named the new presenter. While hosting her own show, Emma revealed what she thought.
She remarked, “Wow! Because it’s my very own, I can’t stop thinking about that little jingle in my head! I usually enter and exit this place while keeping the seats warm, covering for people, and swan in and swan out. I have a show coming up next week and have to be there every week because I’ve just started to feel pressure.”

Before airing on television, Emma revealed that she had a “stress dream.” She stated to her listeners, “I had a stress dream about this very moment when the entire team was present, like they are now, staring at me.” And I was so excited when I declared I was really into the word and then sank to the floor and said, “It’s over before it even started, and that’s what’s ringing in my head right now”!
Emma also shared a heartfelt message from Zoe and earlier in the week about her nerves. She explained to felloe radio hosts Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp, “I’m super excited but a little nervous because it’s Zoe Ball.” Taking over her show, but I just have to believe that it is not, so let’s not think about it that because it would terrify me.
“She sent me a message,” “I’m going to be great, you’re going to be fine,” and I responded, “Okay, thank you.”
Every Saturday afternoon from 1-3pm, Emma will host a programme filled with conversations featuring special guests and listeners, alongside a carefully curated selection of top-quality music.
While Emma was fixture on Heart Radio for six years with Stephen Mulhern, since 2019 she has been a regular stand-in on Radio 2, filling in for stars including Sara Cox, Claudia Winkleman and Romesh Ranganathan.
Spending Saturday lunchtimes with the Radio 2 gang was a total hoot, according to Zoe Ball, along with Romesh and Rylan, the listeners, the stories, and of course my weekly giggles. Emma, who is pure sunshine and will bring all the joy (and tunes), is a wonderful newcomer to the family. to your Saturdays!
Emma is one of the most well-known broadcasters in the UK, and she’s thrilled to be joining the all-star Radio 2 family of presenters, according to Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2. Our devoted listeners will undoubtedly welcome her with open arms, in my opinion.
“I can’t wait to hear Emma’s new show as part of our Superstar Saturday weekend schedule, which includes Fearne Cotton, Dermot O’Leary, Romesh Ranganathan, Rylan, Liza Tarbuck, Gary Davies, and Tony Blackburn,” said one commentator.
