Emily Blunt, the star of The Devil Wears Prada 2, has spoken about reprising her role in the eagerly awaited sequel. She played Miranda Priestly’s assistant in the first movie.
One aspect of filming the Devil Wears Prada 2 has proved to be a “rude awakening” according to Emily Blunt. She has also spoken about the original film remaining beloved by fans amid working on the much awaited sequel this year.
Emily, now 42, played Emily Charlton in the Devil Wears Prada, which was released back in 2006. Her character was introduced to viewers as the senior assistant of magazine editor Miranda Priestly, who was played by Meryl Streep.
They are both among the returning cast members who are back for the new film. Emily and Meryl have been spotted filming alongside co-stars Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci, who are reprising their roles as Andy Sachs and Nigel Kipling respectively.
Filming has been underway on the sequel in New York this summer. It comes after it was announced in June that production had begun on the upcoming film, which is currently expected to be released next year.
Emily spoke to Porter magazine last month about reprising her role in the sequel. During the interview, published today, she shared that her style is different to that of her character, revealing that she likes “oversized” pieces and “to hide”.
She said that even when she decides to “dress it up,” she will still wear a pair of trainers when talking about her “casual” wardrobe. Emily teased her by implying that she has been wearing heels as part of her character despite not being a fan of heels.
She continued, “Getting back to The Devil Wears Prada has been a rude awakening for all of us because I don’t like wearing heels.” For the upcoming movie, she inquired about how it has been “wild” slipping back into her character’s stilettos.
Emily then brought up the film’s popularity. None of the cast members anticipated the “meteoric life” it would continue to have and how its impact would be felt among the viewers, she claimed.
She added that her husband John Krasinski had described it as “people’s nostalgia bank” to her. Emily then suggested that fans have watched the Devil Wears Prada through various moments in their lives.
She continued, “Of course, I meet people who will quote the movie to me, but I’m not sure I’ve ever been bombarded with the realization of what the movie is to those returning to the movie set.” “Holy s**t,” she continued, “That’s what everyone says, every day.
Emily added that her family has “deep emotional roots” in the movie. Stanley, her co-star in The Devil Wears Prada, met Felicity Blunt, the mother of her two children.
Stanley is said to have first met Felicity at the film’s premiere almost two decades ago. The future couple later reconnected at Emily’s wedding to John, before going on to tie the knot themselves in 2012.
