Dr Emily MacDonagh – who is married to Peter Andre – spoke about her stepchildren Princess and Junior, who Peter had with his ex wife Katie Price
Dr Emily MacDonagh has been praised for her “stable” role in Princess and Junior Andre’s life. Emily is married to Peter Andre, who has Princess and Junior with his former wife Katie Price.
Just recently, Katie hit the headlines when she launched a scathing rant at Peter after being banned from Princess’ 18th birthday party. She said: “Everyone knows she’s doing this documentary – and I’m not in it. Certain people don’t think it’s good for Princess to be seen with me. Certain people that used to look after me.”
“You aren’t on brand, Katie. You are too risky, Katie, that’s why,” her sister added as Katie replied: “It’s pathetic. I’m her mother. It’s sad … It’s so sad. When certain people who used to look after me are now looking after…” It was believed that Katie was referring to her ex Peter Andre and their two children, who are all looked after by the same PR team.
In a new podcast, Emily and host Giovanna Fletcher discussed becoming a stepmum to Junior and Princess. “Did it feel daunting being early 20s and suddenly finding yourself in that stepmum role?” she asked.
Emily replied: “It did – but the fact it developed slowly was what made it manageable. They’re so lovely – and in 14 years, I’ve told them off less times than I can count on one hand between them.
“They’re so lovely; they’ve made it so easy for me. I think about all the years really fondly. They’re great. You would have thought we’d fallen out at some point or I’d have to really have a go at them, but no.”
Giovanna then shared: “I’ve said this a lot – I think the role of a stepmum or a stepparent is a really special one. And if done well, it’s such an honour to be that extra caregiver, that extra bit of guidance, that extra bit of stability in a child’s life. That’s really beautiful.”
Emily told her “thank you”, before adding: “I always feel lucky that they’ve kind of accepted me into their family. And I think then, when we had Millie and Theo – and Belle as well – it kind of cements you even more as a family.
“But I always feel like, you know, I’m not their mum, and that’s something I always have to make sure I tread carefully with. I always see it, I think I would see it a bit more like being a big sister. Which, I don’t know if that’s the right way to look at it, but I think, you know, I always try and give them guidance, but I wouldn’t overstep that.”
She shared: “Like, I obviously try and support them like I would do with my own kids. I always try and be the same. I’m quite strict though, on my kids. That’s what I would say to the older kids – it’s lucky there’s an age gap, you know?
“Because then you guys don’t need to worry about, like, silly rules I have – screen time and stuff like that. I’m like, you guys can be exempt because you’re older. The age gap is enough that my kids don’t ask the question, ‘Well, why are they allowed to have the screens?'”
