Eid al-Fitr celebrations around the world

Muslims are rejoicing the Eid al-Fitr holiday and bid farewell to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Eid is typically marked by congregational prayers and celebrations, which typically include family gatherings, outings, and new clothing, and are typically greeted with joy and excitement.

Some people celebrate Eid as a result of significant community changes or challenges this year.

This will be the second Eid al-Fitr held in Gaza since the enclave’s first major conflict broke out.

Israel halted food, fuel, medicine, and other supplies to the enclave earlier this month. The military then resumed its ceasefire with Hamas, which resulted in more than a hundred casualties.

Palestinians who had begun observing Ramadan under a fragile ceasefire were changed by the return of the conflict. More than 50, 000 people have died as a result of Israel’s campaign in Gaza, according to the state’s health ministry.

Syrians are also observing their first Eid al-Fitr since the Assad family took control of the Middle East after more than 50 years.

In Indonesia, many people made homecoming trips to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday with loved ones in a custom known as “mudik.”

Muslims also have an Eid tradition in Malaysia. Prior to visiting loved ones’ graves and seeking forgiveness from family and friends, the first day typically begins with a morning prayer in the mosque.

Friends and families come together to celebrate Eid and sample traditional delicacies like rendang, a meat dish stewed in spices and braised in coconut milk, and ketupat, rice cooked in a palm leaf pouch.

Children and visitors to their homes are given money in green packets by older Muslims.

Families in Egypt perform Eid prayers amid a festive atmosphere. Many travel to vacation destinations, friends and family members, and some visit family members. Traditional cash presents known as “eidiya” are given to children who typically wear new Eid outfits.

Another popular holiday in the nation is making or purchasing powdered sugar Eid cookies.
