The Shape of You singer has announced he’s leaving the UK and moving abroad, but there’s one thing he’ll miss about his home country
It’s official. Ed Sheeran and his family are moving to the United States of America.
Speaking to the 2 Johnnies podcast, Ed, 34, revealed that he’s leaving Suffolk with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter.
The family had been living in a £3.7 million estate, dubbed Sheeranville. Complete with a gym, pool, tree house and even a separate bungalow, it is located in rural Suffolk and where the singer-songwriter has written many of his hits. But the family of four are set to leave for America immanently.
“I’m just about to move to America,” Ed confirmed on the podcast. “I feel like i might be the only person moving to America. I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”

Said tour follows of the release of his latest album, Play, and there are only two UK dates on the tour, being Coventry on 5 December and Manchester on 7 December. Play will be released on 12 September.
While America has a lot to offer, there is something the chart-topping musician will miss – his beloved Ipswich Town football club. Ed owns a 1.4% stake and was their shirt sponsor recently. “I went to almost every game last season,” he said. “I think I can only make one this season because I’m moving to the States.”

Ed has expressed a desire to relocate to the States before. It’s not clear where in the continent-wide country he is moving to, as he has not explicitly stated the city or state, but he has previously suggested he would like to move to Nashville. On another podcast, Call Her Daddy, he explained: “Nashville is my favourite city in the States and it’s always been my end goal to move to Nashville and transition to country.”
Suffolk has produced many stars, including Oscar-nominated actor Ralph Fiennes and the late EastEnders’ icon June Brown. However, Ed Sheeran has been credited with putting the county on the map, thanks to his vocal love for the place. His song, Castle on a Hill, has been described as a ‘love song’ for the county where Ed and his wife both grew up.
Ed met his wife when they were both children, as he was in the year above her at school. Though they lost touch, they reconnected in 2015 in New York when a mutual friend suggested they meet up. They had a quiet wedding three years later and welcomed their first child in 2020. Their second was born in 2022.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres in between the births of his children, he said: I really didn’t have a purpose outside of [music] because when I was giving myself fixed time of no work, I wasn’t doing anything I enjoyed because I love doing music.
“And [being a dad] has actually given me purpose and something in life that’s actually more important than my job.”
