To help Britain’s Jack Draper advance to the biggest final of his career, Carlos Alcaraz, was helped by a contentious video assistant referee-style call.

In a dramatic Indian Wells semi-final, Draper, 23, defeated four-time major champion Alcaraz 6-1, 0-6, 6-4.

The British number one will now enter the top 10 for the first time in his career as a result of serving out the match on its second occasion.

In the third game of the deciding set, England’s Draper was saved by video technology and proceeded to break Alcaraz’s serve.

Umpire Mohamed Lahyani determined that the ball had bounced twice before Draper reached a drop shot with the score at 1-1 and the game at 15-15 on Alcaraz’s serve.

Players now have the option of using video technology in Indian Wells to challenge decisions made during double bounces, which is obviously a mistake from the official.

After Draper demanded a replay right away, Lahyani overturned the original decision.

With momentum back in his favor, he was given the lead of 15-30, which ultimately proved decisive.

In the Masters 1000 final on Sunday, Holger Rune from Denmark will face the left-hander.

In the biggest career final, Britain’s Nicholls won.
