Dozens fall ill in heat at Royal Ascot

Racecourse officials confirmed that dozens of people needed medical attention after Royal Ascot’s second day because of a heat-related illness.

On Wednesday, the event attracted over 41 000 spectators and saw temperatures of 29.7C (85F).

One person was taken to the hospital, according to a Royal Ascot spokesperson, while 42 others were treated on-site.

Additionally, they claimed additional parasols and gazebos had been installed.

Misting fans and a mobile water bowser with a 1, 000-liter (220-gallon) capacity keep horses cool.

More than 250, 000 people are expected to show up for the five-day event, which ends on Saturday.

The occasion, which Queen Anne founded in 1711, is regarded as a significant social occasion as well as a sporting occasion.

From 9:00 BST on Thursday, an Amber heat health alert was issued for the entirety of England, with temperatures expected to reach 30C for the first time this year.

According to the UK Health Security Agency, “significant effects are likely” for social and health services, including increased demand.
