With a 3-1 defeat to Andrew Gilding, world number eight Chris Dobey was left in shock after a shock second-round exit of the PDC World Championship.
At Alexandra Palace, Gilding, 55, came out of a fight and won with a 99.01 overall, which is his career best tournament record.
Dave Chisnall, Michael Smith, and Dirk van Duijvenbode were the only players with seeded players who made it to the second round on Saturday.
After losing the opening set, Gilding only had three more three legs remaining before setting up a third-round meeting with either Luke Woodhouse or Max Hopp after Christmas.
“I feel incredible. You can only improve from there, Gilding told Sky Sports, “I felt really bad in practice, which is usually a good sign.”
“I wanted a nine-darter first, and the second one was a win, so I got the second one.”
In the same match, Nitin Kumar, the tournament’s first-ever player from India, defeated world number four Stephen Bunting in straight sets.
Bunting impressed with his 118, 107, and 132 checkouts, while Kumar won just two legs and averaged 75.18, while Bunting impressed with his 53% success rate on doubles and a 94.11 average.
James Hurrell, who defeated world number 29 Van Duijvenbode 3-2 in a previous encounter, will face “The Bullet.”
The 28th-seeded, 2023 world champion Smith lost to Netherlands’ Niels Zonneveld 3-1 to end the contest.
Smith will face world number five Jonny Clayton in the third round after defeating Zonneveld, who had already advanced by just shy of 98 in the final two sets.

Ryan Searle, the 20th seed, defeated Brendan Dolan in the second round of this year with a blistering 3-0 victory.
Dolan, who had previously reached quarter-finals, was knocked out by Searle on nine of his 14 doubles attempts, an average of 98.67.
