United States midfielder Savannah DeMelo is “awake and in good spirits” in hospital after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Racing Louisville in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The game was halted following the incident in first-half stoppage time during Louisville’s match at Seattle Reign on Sunday, and will resume on Tuesday night.
DeMelo, 27, received treatment on the field before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Her club says she is “undergoing testing to determine what occurred”.
“I’m lucky to have my family with me while I’m waiting for test results to come back,” DeMelo, who has won seven caps for the USA, said.
“I’m extremely thankful to our whole medical staff for the quick response. They’ve been with me every step of the way.
“The support from everyone has truly meant the world to me, and I’m excited to cheer on the girls this week.”
The match, which was goalless, will continue at the start of the second half behind closed doors at Seattle’s Lumen Field on Tuesday.
DeMelo had to be withdrawn from a match against Bay FC in March because of health issues.
