After having surgery on the thigh injury he sustained while scoring a penalty against Inter Milan, Napoli midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will spend a long time on the sidelines.
After scoring in the 33rd minute on Saturday, the 34-year-old grabbed the back of his right thigh and was replaced a short while later.
The Belgian playmaker was taken to a hospital where scans revealed a high-grade tear to the hamstring muscle at the back of the thigh, or bicep femoris.
De Bruyne will begin the first phase of his rehabilitation in Belgium on Wednesday after having a successful surgery in Antwerp, Belgium. Napoli confirmed this.
Reigning champions Napoli have not given a timetable for his return to action, who defeated Inter Milan 3-1 to reclaim the top of the table.
De Bruyne left Manchester City for Napoli for free in June.
