A brand-new Disney Plus documentary explores the history of the sports brands Adidas and Puma. The football icon is featured in the film.
In a new documentary about a well-known sportswear rivalry, David Beckham is scheduled to reveal “insider” truths.
Beckham and other legendary athletes are among the characters in Disney+’s upcoming docuseries Sneaker Wars: Adidas V Puma, which just unveiled a trailer.
The three-part documentary, which will be released on September 24th, explores the family feud that has been woven into the histories of Adidas and Puma.
The official synopsis teases: “Sneaker Wars: Adidas V Puma provides a never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes look into the fierce, decades-old rivalry between two global sportswear giants, born from a family feud.
“Brothers Adi and Rudi Dassler founded Adidas and Puma, turning their personal conflict into a battle for dominance in the athletic world.”
Disney+ adds: “Featuring top athletes, ‘sneakerhead’ experts, and brand insiders including David Beckham, Usain Bolt, Neymar and more, the series charts the origins of the Dassler split, their innovative contributions to sports culture, the defining moments in the global fashion industry, and the ongoing legacy of two brothers whose rivalry changed the game forever.”
Although the German-born sports brands have gained worldwide notoriety, it’s possible that the brothers who founded them are not.
Sneaker Wars explores a variety of topics, starting with Kanye West’s collaboration with Adidas and how the brand names came to be.
Olympic champion Usain Bolt, who collaborated with Puma throughout his world-record-breaking career, provides additional insight into the brands’ quiet rivalry.
Noah Lyles, a young Olympic athlete, Craig Mitch, a well-known content creator, and other Olympic fans are also expected to speak.
American studio Studio 99 and American production company Matador Content are both producing Sneaker Wars.
Beckham’s cameo in the Disney docuseries will drop just weeks before his wife Victoria’s new self-titled Netflix series.
The three-part show, which will air on October 9th, charts the popstar’s life from her early years to her rise to fame and the subsequent media scrutiny.
Her husband, along with A-listers Tom Ford, Roland Mouret, Anna Wintour, and Eva Longoria, are featured in the anticipated documentary.
