Darragh Ennis has dubbed The Chase star Mark Labbett “the worst loser ever” after the 60-year-old “walked off” set when he failed to win a show. Darragh, 44, joined the cast of The Chase in 2020.

As one of the formidable Chasers, he appears alongside Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, Anne Hegerty, and Shaun Wallace. A team of four contestants compete against the Chasers to win a cash prize in the finale of the competition.

Since the show’s inception in 2009, 533 teams have successfully beat the Chasers and walked away with the money. On the Podcast Dempsey’s Dozen, host Ian Dempsey recalled a recent episode where Mark stormed off after losing in the dying seconds.

It prompted Darragh to reveal that The Beast hates” to lose. He explained: “We do take it seriously. Mark is, and he would not mind me saying this, the worst loser in the world.

He claims that he “does it,” and that is not an act. He might make a little comedic fun of it, but he is genuinely angry, sore-lost, kicks off, and then recovers five minutes later.

He dislikes losing, he says. When we’re doing Beat the Chasers, we have to tell him to stop buzzing in because he wants to get in there if he hasn’t responded to a question in a while.

Mark has a reputation for his fiery on-set antics throughout his time on the show. After host Bradley Walsh addressed a number of errors that resulted in two contestants receiving £30, 000, he reportedly punched a wall as he stormed off set in 2020.

After watching the dramatic exit, Bradley mused, “Oops, I think he’s upset,” before congratulating the winners.

The host continued, “Wow, he is furious,” when Mark returned to speak with him after he had not reappeared. For those of you who believe it to be a part of the show, it is not. He has actually fled and stormed off.

Two years later, Mark once more stormed off the set, this time thanks to a team that won a £21,000 jackpot. Bradley, 65, expressed regret on behalf of the Chaser and said it was inappropriate to handle defeat.

I apologize to all the children who were watching, Bradley said. You shouldn’t accept defeat in that way. You ought to take it humbly and magnanimously.

Mark subsequently apologised for the outburst in a social media post. Writing on X, then Twitter, he said: “Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight. My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase.”
