Four months after the news, celebrity Big Brother finalist Danny Beard has reflected on the passing of the late RuPaul’s Drag Race UK champion Vivienne, who was their friend.
Drag artist Danny Beard has opened up about the death of their late friend the Vivienne. The reality TV star has shared one thing that they have taken away from it whilst reflecting on the tragic situation four months on.
The Vivienne – whose real name is James Lee Williams – died, aged 32, in January. It was later announced that the late performer had died “from the effects of ketamine use causing a cardiac arrest” and their family have continued to raise awareness around drug use in the weeks since then.
Danny, 32 – who, like the Vivienne, once won RuPaul’s Drag Race UK – has been among the pals who have paid tribute to the Vivienne since their death. This included celebrating their legacy at a vigil held in Liverpool earlier this year.
Now, following their recent stint on Celebrity Big Brother, Danny has spoken again about their late friend. They shared that the Vivienne wouldn’t have expected the “outpouring of love” that’s come in the wake of their death.
Danny told the Daily Mail that the Vivienne “would not have believed” the outpouring of support. They added that the late Dancing on Ice star would not have expected people all over the world to have “celebrated her”.
Danny told the outlet that they now believe it’s important to show their love to friends right now and that they have taken that lesson away. They argued that people frequently wait until it is “too late” before doing that and don’t do it enough.
Danny said, “I took that from the avalanche of support for the Vivienne,” telling them to tell their friends how proud you are of them. That is not what we do. We wait until it is too late.
Danny said if they were put in “that position,” they would like people to say they were “fun” and that they made people laugh. They explained that’s the “power of entertainment,” before revealing that their work has “saved” them in “many ways” in the past.
Danny and the Vivienne were formally recognized earlier this year in a statement released after the news of their passing. We have lost a friend, all of us, according to Danny. She made people feel like they were seen because Viv was a true entertainer. That in her has always been my admiration. You can’t buy anything that she connected with people.
One of the most passionate, gifted, and geeky women I’ve ever met was “she was one of the most geeky, talented, and talented.” You were certain that when you worked with her, she would show up and perform the job like a pro, and you would be laughing your t**s off the way out as she did.
“Her talent for developing characters wasn’t just what we saw on stage or on TV!” When you’re with Viv, she constantly makes them! Always giving a voice or a bit, and it was the best time ever. HOWLING ! A piece is currently missing. See you soon, girl.
