In response to interest from other Premier League and European clubs, France international Jean-Philippe Mateta has informed Crystal Palace that he wants to leave.

Mateta, 28, is still on his current Selhurst Park contract for 18 months, but as it stands, he won’t be signing an extension.

Juventus, an Italian giant, tried to sign the striker this month, but they have so far failed to get Palace’s estimated $40 million asking price.

Mateta has been attracting interest from Aston Villa for some time, and the club is also interested in moving this month.

Oliver Glasner, the club’s manager, acknowledged last week that Mateta offers were being considered.

With 18 months left on his contract, “There will be a price that Crystal Palace accept.” If JP wants, we’ll make the deal. He will stay if no one pays that price, the Austrian said.

Eberechi Eze, a star midfielder for Palace, was sold to Arsenal in the summer and Marc Guehi, a captain, was replaced as captain by Palace in January after he left Manchester City for £20m.

Following Saturday’s defeat to Sunderland, Glasner claimed the Palace hierarchy had been “abandoned” by the club’s recruitment strategy. He announced last week that he would leave the club at the end of the season.

Analysis: Mateta wants to leave, but it’s a shock.

The club’s supporters will be shocked by the news, but it won’t come as a surprise.

Mateta has always made it clear that he wants to play at the highest level and that he wants to represent France at the World Cup and play in the Champions League.

After making his senior debut in October, Glasner’s World Cup dream, which seemed distant before the 29-year-old made his debut, can now be realized because the frontman has scored in his last two starts for Les Bleus.

According to sources with knowledge of Mateta’s situation, the player is disappointed with the club’s attitude because it hasn’t kept its commitments regarding a new contract, hiring, and ambitions, with the forward looking for a new challenge.

Given Guehi’s departure, Glasner’s upcoming departure, and the embarrassment caused by the timing, Selhurst Park’s transition becomes more difficult.

Daichi Kamada is also receiving treatment at the hospital, but Palace have wonless in 10 games and are still without veteran right winger Daniel Munoz due to an injury.

Ismaila Sarr, a crucial player for the Eagles attack alongside Mateta, has missed nine games while supporting Senegal’s victory in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mateta is currently recovering from a knee injury, but clubs will find him attractive given his Premier League goalscoring record.
