For “criminal defamation” of the reputation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, has summoned blogger Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna mandated the defendant, VDM, to appear in person before the court on March 13, 2025, to answer the charges brought against them by the complainant, Chinwo, in the court summons from March 5, 2025.

The alleged defamatory statements made by VDM on social media, accusations of Chinwo’s involvement in a contractual dispute, and the purported theft of $345,000 from her former boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee, led to the criminal summons.

In support of her claims, Chinwo provided the court with evidence that demonstrated that the allegations made by VDM were not only completely false, but also damning and harmful to the claimant’s reputation and public image.

The defendant’s attorneys, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of an Abuja-based law firm called Law Corridor, Mercy Chinwo, allegedly acted in the criminal complaint filed by the complainants.

The defendants’ alleged actions, according to the complainant, are in contravention of Sections 391 and 24(1)(B) of the 2015 Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc.) Act.

Following that, magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna ordered VDM to show up in court on March 13, 2025 to answer the charges.

Remember that Chinwo’s attorney also sued the blogger for $1. 1 billion in damages by dragging VDM before Abuja’s High Court.

The lawyer requested a decree ordering VDM to delete, retract, and publicly apologize for all allegedly defamatory and false statements made against Chinwo and her brand.

A Federal High Court in Lagos adjourned the case until March 6, 2025 for the arraignment of the record label boss on February 17, 2025, and ordered the arrest warrant for Ee Zee Tee over an alleged fraudulent conversion to be permanent.

Olajengbesi claimed in the defamation lawsuit that VDM created the positions without provoking them and with the intention to lower the Chinwo’s reputation among the society’s right-thinking members.

Chinwo provided the court with all evidence and documents to show that VeryDarkMan’s claims are false.

He claimed before the court that the VDM’s videos and posts are false and have seriously impacted the Chinwo’s reputation, standing in the media, and emotional well-being.
