We’re examining actress Beth Nixon’s life off-screen as evil Megan continues to create drama on Coronation Street.
Coronation Street’s Megan has ruffled plenty of feathers so far on the soap – but who is the talented actress playing the evil predator?
Beth made her debut on the ITV soap last year, as the athletics coach of youngster Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) who moved from Hull to Weatherfield with his family.
This includes his dad Ben (Aaron McCusker), grandmother Maggie (Pauline McLynn) and Ben’s girlfriend Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) who returned to the street after seven years.
However, it was later revealed that Megan has been secretly grooming 16-year-old Will for months, prior to his move. Megan has also struck up a romance with fellow teacher Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard).
And this week, the soap confirmed a shock baby twist for Megan when it was revealed she was pregnant. So, with more drama to come on the long-running soap, we’re taking a look inside newcomer Beth Nixon’s life…
Before becoming famous as Coronation Street, Beth’s typical job
Beth, who is 25 years old, hails from York and studied drama at the Arden School of Theatre- in Manchester. Balancing working life and her dreams of becoming an actor, Beth was working as a skin clinic manager when she auditioned for Corrie.
And Beth, who had previously worked as a waitress “for years,” was overcome with emotion when she learned that she had been chosen for the role of evil Megan on the soap.
“I was at work when my agent called me. I was upstairs as my colleague watched the desk and, when he told me I’d got it, everybody in the clinic could hear me screaming my head off and then I cried, because it’s been four years since I graduated and this is my first TV role,” she told York College.
It’s been a difficult time for me, Beth continued, “I was really close to quitting and having a regular job and pursuing a different career. This just happened when I needed it.
Beth plans to collaborate with former actor boyfriend.
Beth’s first TV role is Coronation Street. She also appeared in a McDonald’s advertisement in Switzerland alongside her actor ex-boyfriend, who she described as “a few plays and radio voiceovers” prior to her soap debut.
“I was flown out there for four days, shot the advert and thought it was just the coolest thing in the world – getting paid to eat McDonald’s all day in Switzerland!” she added to York College..
“The job was with my ex-boyfriend, and we were sat in a car park, and the advertisement featured me finding the few chips left in the bottom of the bag.” I’ve also performed a few plays and voiceovers for radio, but this is my first major production.
Beth twice auditioned for Corrie.
Beth apparently almost made it to Coronation Street before making her debut as Megan, and she was very close to doing so.
Beth previously stated, “This is my first TV job, but I’ve also auditioned for Corrie.” She explained that she auditioned for Lauren Bolton’s role and later for a woman who was abusing Lauren at the mother-and-baby unit. My agent called me, asked about an audition, and explained the role.
In her 2022 debut, actress Cait Fitton was later cast as Lauren. Since then, she hasn’t stopped on the program.
