Coronation Street fans thrilled as soap stars reunite after 13 years for ITV drama

More than ten years after their roles on Coronation Street in the newest ITV drama Protection, Katherine Kelly and Catherine Tyldesley reunite.
Siobhan Finneran, who also appeared in Corrie as factory worker Josie between 1989 and 1990, is the star of the television series. She portrays police officer DI Liz Nyles, who patrols the witness protection section and is later hidden in safe houses while giving evidence to criminals. When a murder occurs at one of the safe houses, she becomes aware that one of her team may be leeching information, so she launches her own investigation as DCI Hannah Wheatley (Katherine Kelly) arrives to investigate possible unit corruption. She concentrates on her younger, married coworker, DS Paul Brandice (Barry Ward), with whom she has a secret relationship.
Katherine is best known for her six-year, six-year Corrie lead role in the police drama, which also brings her back together with Siobhan, whom she starred opposite in Happy Valley.

Siobhan and I have collaborated on a number of projects, and we have been friends for a long time. We picked up where we left off, she said, because this is the most times we’ve actually appeared on screen together.
Katherine has also mentioned the research she did to prepare for the role of a police officer investigating corruption, including a day spent with Merseyside Police.
I wanted a refresher course because I had previously played a similar role in Happy Valley ten years ago and felt that the policing had drastically changed during this time. I was greeted with open arms. They gave me a crash course on what tools you would use when you arrived at a major incident, the significance of that crucial golden hour when you arrived at a crime scene, how cautious you must be with the flow of information, and how much phones and CCTV are important in modern detective work. They had a fantastic performance. The police obviously want to be represented in the right way, but one of the benefits of the job is getting these exclusive passes into worlds you really shouldn’t be.

Catherine Tyldesley, Katherine’s co-star in Corrie, makes a cameo appearance in the police drama, bringing the two back together on set.
Between 2011 and 2018, Catherine played Eva Price on the cobbles, and later this year, she is expected to play her part again.
Catherine teased her potential return last year on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, telling hosts Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh, “Everyone thought the same!” But never declare never. Simply put, it was lovely to see everyone.
In Protection, there are also other soap stars. Andrew Knott played a brief role in Coronation Street before becoming well-known for series like Gavin &, Stacey (where he played Dirtbox), and Ackley Bridge. Chaneil Kular, who is best known for Sex Education, started his career in 2018.
Ace Bhatti, a Line of Duty actor who played Yusef Khan in EastEnders between 2010 and 2011, joins them.
Protection will be available on ITV1 on Sunday, March 16 at 9 p.m., with all subsequent ITVX episodes available.
